Alpaca Fiesta 2007
![]() |
A first for Australia and for Dianne who was asked to Judge the 2007 Peruvian Alpaca Fiesta with 1000 alpacas attending. Dianne was priviliged and proud to accept the job to judge in Peru and also honourd to judge with Dr julio Sumar. The whites alpacas were judged by Dr Sumar and Dianne together then Dianne judged all the colours on the final two days. She found that there appeared to be a lift in quality since the last fiesta particulary with their fineness. The judging was over four long days which took its toll on her at one stage. It was great to meet many overseas friends and attend the fashion parade and dinner. Once again the Peruvians put on a spectacular programme of events, making us feel very special, it just never ceases to amaze us. After the judging event we went down to the Colca Canyon which was spectacuular and a great finish to our trip.
After the show we were informed that Shanbrooke Accoyo Rasputin was the Grand sire of the Res. Junior Champion Female which was owned by pacomaca. The Pacomaca farm had the use of our stud males before they went into Quarintine. We also discovered after the show that David Churra's family from the Tingabamba farm won many ribbons a well. Both Tingabamba Pancho and Accoyo Rasputin proudly stand at stud at Shanbrooke Alpaca Stud.

| Fleece of one of the males sent to Europe |
We have just returned from a visit to England and Switzerland to see how the Stud males have settled in to their new homes. Considering that they did 6 months quarantine in the snow during their time in Switzerland they seem very settled and happy. The quality of their fleece has opened the eyes of breeders who have not been able to see this type of fibre before. We have also sent Males to South Africa and Germany. We believe that these males will do Shanbrooke and Australia proud.
Judging

| The Royal in England |
As well as doing other judging duties this year, Dianne has just completed the training school for new judges. This was carried out on the farm of Bill Robbins. Both he and Bill Plunket assisted Dianne to carry out this three day course.
Dianne is very busy this year with her judging duties. She has just arrived home from England where she judged the 2005 Royal Show where alpacas that took part in this event had to qualify to be exhibited. So, for this reason, the quality was very high. She saw progeny of recently imported Male stock as well as Peruvian imported stock. The Royal Show is the culmination of other major shows.
Dianne will judge the Royal Melbourne Show in September, which she will be doing for the first time. Then it is off to New Zealand in December for their National Show. This will complete another very busy year and a well earned rest will be the order of the day.
Showing
We were very happy to see one of our clients have the great success they deserved at the 2005 Sydney Easter Show: Ian and Cathy Braithwaite with their male Patagonia Celtic Triumph, who was awarded Grand Champion. Celtic Triumph was sired by Shanbrooke Accoyo Tulaco. Well done!
Giving Something Back
![]() |
| Dr Jane Vaughan and Local Vet Rito |
Both Dianne and i decided that it was time to give something back to the breeders of Peru.Because they loose so many cria during there bad seasons we thought it might be a good idea to arrange for Dr Jane Vaughan an Dr Hopkins to go to Peru and do some embryo program transfer work as well as teach some local vets how to do the embryo work.We feel by doing this at Pacomarca where they are a breeder in there own right and also a experimental farm owned by Grupo inca this work could be carried out in hygenic conditions and great facilitys. This now allows them to lift the quality of there herd as well as any other breeder who wishes to take part in the program. They now can concentrate on there best alpacas to lift fleece weights and any other characteristic they wish to attend to.Also it will help save breeding lines that are nearly extinct. This program was carried out from grant money from Colar and money raised via stud male service auctions. We would like to thank Jane and David very much for there splendid work.We will keep this updated as time goes on in regard to the success of the embryos retreived and how many turn into cria.
